THE SURRENDERED MUSLIMAH: MARRIAGE & ETTIQUETES WORKSHOP

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Delivered by Sister Sara Malik, Surrendered Wife Trainer (UK)*

Date: Saturday 18th July 2009
Time: 10am - 5pm
Cost: £20.00

Venue: Birkbeck College, Malet Street, Bloomsbury, London, WC1E 7HX
Nearest Tube Station: Russell Square

The Prophet saw said: “Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges. The ruler who has authority over people is a guardian
And is responsible for them, A man is a guardian of his family And is responsible for them; A woman is a guardian of her husband's house and children And is responsible for them; A slave is a guardian of his master's property And is responsible for it; So all of you are guardians and are responsible for your charges." (Bukhari 730)

During the one-day workshop, women learn all about the concept of ‘surrender’ and unravel the myths around it. Throughout the course of the day, women learn new ways that directly contribute to happiness and intimacy in a marriage; from learning way they could receive better, to looking after themselves more effectively. They explore ways they can express themselves more effectively and how to successfully get their needs met.

The workshop sheds light on how men feel around the topics of control and respect, aswell as helping them realise the significance of showing gratitude in a marriage. Although this workshop does not replace the in-depth investigation that the on-line Seminar provides, it is a perfect introduction into the principles of surrendering, and the ways to go about it.

All women welcome and entrance by bookings only.

Listening To Musical Instruments

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Listening to musical instruments.

Q. Are muslims allowed to listen to string instruments eg. guitar, piano, etc. Some songs sang by Sami Yusuf, he was playing a piano and singing.

A. It is not permissible for Muslims to listen to string instruments. It is haram in Islam.

The four schools of law have stated that it is Haraam (unlawful) to use instruments which brings about entertainment, amusement and melody, like sticks, string instruments like the mandolin, piano, bass drum, drum, tabla, (drumming, drumbeat), single pipe instrument, the fiddle etc.
The Scholars have stated that if a person listens to these instruments, his testimony will be rejected. This is due to the statement of the Prophet (S.A) in which he said, ‘There will be people of my Ummah who would consider intoxicants, swine, silk and musical instruments as being Halaal (lawful)’. (Bukhari)

The Messenger of Allah also said ‘Certainly, there will be people of my Ummah who would consume intoxicants by giving it another name, they would play musical instruments and would listen to singing women. Allah will cause them to sink in the earth and will make from among them apes and swines’. (Ibn Majah, Tirmizi)

Both these traditions have been given as signs of the hour of judgment and they speak about the unlawful actions which will be adopted by Muslims. Hence, the idea of Muslims being entertained and amused by these instruments is from among the condemned actions in Islam.

The Scholars have also used the following verse of the Holy Quran to prove the prohibition of musical instruments. Allah says in Sura Luqman Verse 6, ‘And from among men, there are those who purchase idle talks to mislead (men) from the path of Allah’. While commenting on this verse, the great companion, Abdullah bin Abbass (R.A) said, ‘idle talks’ in this verse means music.

Imam Shafi and Imam Ahmad have also considered the use of sticks (while singing) to be Makrooh (disliked) since it creates amusement.

As for creating special sound effects from the throat, this is also totally Haraam according to all scholars. They have stated that the one who does this is a Faasiq. (Al Fiqhul Islami Vol. 4 Pg. 2665)

In the famous and renowned book of Islamic Law, ‘Raddul Muktar’, it is stated that all musical instruments are forbidden. ( Raddul Muktar Vol. 6 Pg. 348)

As for the ‘steel pan’, this is also forbidden since it is used to create amusement, entertainment and by extension musical sounds.

The prohibition of this can be clearly seen from the fact that the act of beating sticks to create a melody or sound is forbidden, as such, to a greater extent the steel pan will be forbidden. In this regard the jurists have stated, ‘The allowance to beat the Daff for Nikah’ does not bring about the allowance to use other things like the beating of sticks etc. ( Umdatul Qaari – Commentary of Saheeh Al Bukhari Vol. 3 pg. 271)

In the famous book of Islamic Verdicts, Fatawa Bazaziya it is written ‘To listen to drums, tabla etc. is totally unlawful and it is sinful’. It is also an act of transgression (sin) to sit at such places where these can be heard’. (Al Halaal wal Haraam pg. 240)

With respect to the usage of the Daff, (or Duff) it is permissible to use for weddings and other happy (allowable) occasions. However, it must be noted that the Daff is a special small drum, called a tambourine which is sealed at one end. It must not be beaten to create a resounding sound and it should not be used for entertainment and amusement. If it is beaten in this manner then it would not be permissible. The drum that is sealed at both ends is the Tabl (or Tabla) and is not permissible

And Allah knows best.

It Is They Who Will Prosper!

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Ye are the best of Peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had Faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have Faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors. Holy Quran 3:110

"But ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn unto Him (in repentance): for my Lord is indeed full of mercy and Loving-Kindness." Holy Quran 11:90

O mankind! there hath come to you a direction from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts, and for those who believe, a Guidance and a Mercy. Holy Quran 10:57

So give what is due to kindred, the needy, and the wayfarer. That is best for those who seek the Countenance, of Allah, and it is they who will prosper. Holy Quran 30:38

Punishments for Women!

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Hazrat Ali Radi Allahu anhu said that once he and Bibi Fatima Radi Allahu anha went to visit Rasoolallah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam.

Rasoolallah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam was weeping. They inquired the reason that had made them Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallamweep. He Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam replied:

"On the night of the Ascension (Miraaj Shareef), I saw the punishments being given to some women, today I was remembering those scenes. This is why I am worried". They Radi Allahu anhu asked, "Please tell us what did you see?" He Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam replied:

"I saw a woman hanging by her hair and her brain was boiling. (This was the punishment of that woman who did not hide her hair by covering her head from men). I saw one woman hanging by her tongue with her hands tied against her back.

(She used to hurt her husband's feelings by her tongue i.e. speaking). I saw one woman with both her hands and feet tied towards her forehead; and snakes and scorpions were attacking her. (She used to go out of her house without the permission of her husband and she did not clean up herself properly by taking a shower after menses and child birth bleeding).

(Those women who use nail polish should learn a lesson from this. Keep in mind! Nail polish sticks to the surface of the nail hence, ablution and bath is not made.)

One woman was eating her own flesh and there was fire burning under her. (She used to dress up and apply make-up in order to attract attention of males and she used to speak bad about people behind their backs). One woman was seen having her body being cut by a scissor made out of fire.

(This was the punishment for showing her body and private parts to other men). One woman had a face of pig and the body of a donkey, and she was being punished in different styles. (She used to tell lies and make false accusations). There was a woman who looked like a dog, snakes and scorpions were entering into her front-side and coming out from her backside. And angels were hitting her with a hammer made up of fire. (She used to have an attitude problem towards her husband).

Conversation About Allah

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

An Atheist Professor of Philosophy speaks to his Class on the Problem Science has with ALLAH, The ALMIGHTY.
He asks one of his New Muslim Student to stand and . . .

Professor : You are a Muslim, aren't you, son ?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So you Believe in ALLAH ?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Professor : Is ALLAH Good ?
Student : Sure.
Professor : Is ALLAH ALL - POWERFUL ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : My Brother died of Cancer even though he Prayed to ALLAH to Heal him.
Most of us would attempt to Help Others who are ill.
But ALLAH didn't.
How is this ALLAH Good then ? Hmm ?
( Student is silent )

Professor : You can't answer, can you ?
Let's start again, Young Fella.
Is ALLAH Good ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Is Satan good ?
Student : No.
Professor : Where does Satan come from ?
Student : From . . . ALLAH . . .
Professor : That's right.
Tell me son, is there evil in this World ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Evil is everywhere, isn't it ?
And ALLAH did make Everything. Correct ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : So who created evil ?
( Student does not answer )

Professor : Is there Sickness ? Immorality ? Hatred ? Ugliness ?
All these terrible things exist in the World, don't they ?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So, who Created them ?
( Student has no answer )

Professor : Science says you have 5 Senses you use to Identify and
Observe the World around you.
Tell me, son . . . Have you ever Seen ALLAH ?
Student : No, sir.
Professor : Tell us if you have ever Heard your ALLAH ?
Student : No , sir.
Professor : Have you ever Felt your ALLAH , Tasted your ALLAH , Smelt
your ALLAH ?
: Have you ever had any Sensory Perception of ALLAH for that
matter ?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Professor : Yet you still Believe in HIM ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol,
Science says your ALLAH doesn't exist.
What do you say to that, son ?
Student : Nothing. I only have my Faith .
Professor : Yes. Faith . And that is the Problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as Heat ?
Professor : Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as Cold ?
Professor : Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn't.

( The Lecture Theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events )

Student : Sir, you can have Lots of Heat, even More Heat, Superheat,
Mega Heat, White Heat,
a Little Heat or No Heat.
But we don't have anything called Cold..
We can hit 458 Degrees below Zero which is No Heat, but we
can't go any further after that.
There is no such thing as Cold.
Cold is only a Word we use to describe the Absence of Heat.
We cannot Measure Cold.
Heat is Energy.
Cold is Not the Opposite of Heat, sir, just the Absence of it.

( There is Pin - Drop Silence in the Lecture Theatre )

Student : What about Darkness, Professor ? Is there such a thing as Darkness ?
Professor : Yes. What is Night if there isn't Darkness ?
Student : You're wrong again, sir.
Darkness is the Absence of Something.
You can have Low Light, Normal Light , Bright Light, Flashing Light . . .
But if you have No Light Constantly, you have Nothing and it's called Darkness, isn't it ?
In reality, Darkness isn't.
If it is, were you would be able to make Darkness Darker, wouldn't you ?
Professor : So what is the point you are making, Young Man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your Philosophical Premise is Flawed.
Professor : Flawed ? Can you explain how ?
Student : Sir, you are working on the Premise of Duality.
You argue there is Life and then there is Death, a Good ALLAH and a Bad ALLAH .
You are viewing the Concept of ALLAH as something finite, something we can measure.
Sir, Science can't even explain a Thought.
It uses Electricity and Magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.
To view Death as the Opposite of Life is to be ignorant of the fact that
Death cannot exist as a Substantive Thing.
Death is Not the Opposite of Life : just the Absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor, do you Teach your Students that they Evolved from a Monkey ?
Professor : If you are referring to the Natural Evolutionary Process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed Evolution with your own eyes, sir ?

( The Professor shakes his head with a Smile, beginning to realize where the Argument is going )

Student : Since no one has ever observed the Process of Evolution at work and
cannot even prove that this Process is an On - Going Endeavor,
are you not Teaching your Opinion, sir ?
Are you not a Scientist but a Preacher ?

( The Class is in Uproar )

Student : Is there anyone in the Class who has ever Seen the Professor's Brain ?

( The Class breaks out into Laughter )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever Heard the Professor's Brain, Felt it, Touched or Smelt it ? . . .
No one appears to have done so..
So, according to the Established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that
you have No Brain, sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then Trust your Lectures, sir ?

( The Room is Silent. The Professor stares at the Student, his face unfathomable )

Professor : I guess you'll have to take them on Faith , son.
Student : That is it sir . . .
the Link between Man & ALLAH is FAITH.
That is all that Keeps Things Moving & Alive

How Can We Cure Nightmares?

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Ways of protecting oneself from nightmares and disturbing dreams

Praise be to Allah.

1. Dreams that disturb a person and keep him awake come from the Shaytaan. In general, the dreams that people see are either good dreams which come from Allah, a reflection of things which a person is thinking about, or a third type, which are dreams that come from the Shaytaan.

It was reported from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Towards the end of time, hardly any dreams that the Muslim sees will not come true. The one whose dreams are the most truthful will be the one whose speech is the most honest. The dreams of the Muslim form one of the forty-five parts of Prophecy. Dreams are of three types: the good dream which is good news from Allah; dreams which cause distress, which come from the Shaytaan; and dreams concerning matters which a person is thinking about…” (Narrated by Muslim, 2263)

2. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told us how to rid ourselves of the influence of Shaytaan during sleep. This can be achieved by reciting verses from the Qur’aan and du’aa’s narrated from him, before going to sleep.

It was reported that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put me in charge of guarding the zakaah of Ramadaan. Someone came and started to scatter the food. I took hold of him and said, ‘I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).’… He said, ‘When you go to bed, recite Aayat al-Kursi and you will be protected by Allah, and no shaytaan (devil) will come near you until morning.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘He told you the truth even though he is a liar. That was a shaytaan.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3101).

(b) It was reported that Abu Mas’ood al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘The last two aayahs of Soorat al-Baqarah – whoever recites them at night, they will be sufficient for him.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3786; Muslim, 807).

Al-Nawawi said: “Concerning the phrase, ‘The last two aayahs of Soorat al-Baqarah – whoever recites them at night, they will be sufficient for him’, it was said that it means, they will be sufficient for him instead of praying qiyaam al-layl, or as protection from Shaytaan, or as protection from vermin. It could mean all of these things.”

(Sharh Muslim, 6/91, 92).

(c) It was reported that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to his bed, he would blow into his hands and recite Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad (Soorah 112) and the Mi’wadhatayn (Soorahs 113 and 114). Then he would wipe his hands over his face and his body, as far as they could reach.” ‘Aa’ishah said: “When he fell ill, He would ask me to do that for him.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5416; Muslim, 2192)

(d) It was reported that Abu Hurayrah said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to tell us, when any one of us wanted to sleep, to lie on his right side, then say ‘Allahumma Rabb al-samaawaati wa Rabb al-ard wa Rabb al-‘Arsh il-‘Azeem, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay’in, faaliq al-habb wa’l-nawa wa munazzil al-Tawraata wa’l-Injeeli wa’l-Furaan, a’oodhu bika min sharri kulli shay’in anta aakhidhun bi naasiyatihi. Allahumma anta al-awwal fa laysa qablaka shay’un, wa anta al-aakhir fa laysa ba’daka shay’un. Wa anta al-zaahir fa laysa fawqaka shay’un wa anta al-baatin fa laysa doonaka shay’un. Iqdi ‘annaa al-dayna wa aghninaa min al-faqr (O Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth, and Lord of the Mighty Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, Splitter of the seed and the date stone, Revealer of the Tawraat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel) and the Furqaan (Qur’aan), I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things that You will seize by the forelock [i.e., have full control over them]. O Allah, You are the First and there is nothing before You; You are the Last and there is nothing after You. You are the Manifest (al-Zaahir) and there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden (al-Baatin) and there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debt and spare us from poverty).’” (Narrated by Muslim, 2713).

(e) It was reported that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Abu Bakr said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I can say in the morning and in the evening.’ He said: ‘Say, Allahumma ‘Aalim al-ghaybi wa’l-shahaadah, Faatir al-samawaati wa’l-ard, Rabba kulli shay’in wa maleekahu, ashhadu an laa ilaaha illa anta. A’oodhi bika min sharri nafsi wa min sharr il-shaytaan wa shirkih (O Allah, Knower of the seen and the unseen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of all things, I bear witness that there is no god except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil and shirk of the Shaytaan). Say this in the morning and in the evening, and when you go to bed.’” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3392; Abu Dawood, 5067).

3. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also taught us what to do when someone sees something unpleasant in a dream and wakes up as a result. That is: to spit drily to the left, to seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytaan, to change the side on which one was sleeping, and to pray if one wishes.

(a) It was reported that Abu Qutaadah said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Good dreams come from Allah and bad dreams come from the Shaytaan. If any one of you sees a bad dream which makes him afraid, let him spit drily to his left and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, then it will not harm him.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3118; Muslim, 2261).

(b) It was reported from Jaabir that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If any one of you sees a dream that he dislikes, let him spit drily to his left three time, and seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytaan three times, and change the side on which he was sleeping.” (narrated by Muslim, 2262).

(c) It was reported that Abu Hurayrah said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘If any one of you sees something that he dislikes (in a dream), let him get up and pray, and not tell people about it.’” (narrated by Muslim, 2263)

If the Muslim follows this advice given by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), before he goes to bed, it is hoped that no shaytaan will come anywhere near him, and if he follows this advice when he wakes up from a bad dream, it will take away all anxiety and distress from him.

And Allah knows best.

Have You Given This A Thought?

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

have you ever stopped & pondered on your life?
maybe at the end of the day?
or maybe at the end of the week?
do you forget that we're only here temporarily?
that this is all just like a dream?
that we will wake up at the end to the "real" world?

Harms Of Looking at Opposite Sex with Lustful Gazes

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

In this day and age, due to the shamelessness and immodesty which has been spread through Pornography, TV, VCR, Internet, Cell Phone, Cinema, etc., so many people's lives have been destroyed. Young people have ruined their youth in illicit sexual intercourse and masturbation. Life-life marriages have been broken due to unlawful love affairs. On a social level, society is plagued with problems such as rape, prostitution, child molestation and pedophile, homosexuality, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

The question arises as to what is the root of all these problems. May Allah Ta'ala reward our pious predecessors, who look at the world with the eye of the heart, enlightened by the light of the Quran, Hadith and the burning love of Allah Ta’ala. They have diagnosed all these sickness to be brought about by one deadly disease. The root of all these problems is the SIN OF THE EYES, casting evil glances, looking at the opposite or same sex with lustful gazes. Unfortunately today, people do not even consider casting evil glances to be a sin, when in actuality it is the root of innumerable vices and sins.

Another reality which people are totally unaware of is that by protecting one's eyes from lustful glances, one is promised the taste of the sweetness of Imaan. Once the sweetness of Imaan enters the heart, it will never be taken back. Thus by protecting the eyes, one is given grad tidings of a good death.

Rasulullah Muhammad (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) said:

"Verily the evil glance is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of Iblees. He who abstains from casting evil glances, I will grant him such Imaan, that he will feel the sweetness of it in his heart".

Hafiz ibn Katheer (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ) mentions in his Tafseer:

"He who protects his eyes from unlawful gazes, Allah Ta'ala will grant him the light of the heart."

We ask Allah Ta'ala that He makes this note a means of exposing the reality of this destructive disease and that He guides the entire Ummah from the darknesses of sin into the light of piety and obedience to Allah Ta'ala and Rasulullah Muhammad (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم).

Characteristics of a Pious Wife

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

A pious woman’s priority is to seek the pleasure of Allah. She tries acquiring the qualities of a good wife by following the examples of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) and obeying what is commanded in the Book of Allah. Complete obedience and adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) and Quran is the best of a woman’s qualities.

Examples:
A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her fame, for her beauty and for her religion. So marry one for her religion and you will win. [Bukhari & Muslim]

Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands) and guard in their husband’s absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their honor, husbands property, etc) [4:34]

An-Nasaii narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) was asked “Who are the best of women?” He replied, “The one who pleases him (her husband) if he looks at her, obeys him if he orders (her) and does not subject her honor or money to what he dislikes.”

Ibn Hibban narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, “If a woman prayed five prayers, fasted in Ramadan, protected her honor and obeyed her husband; then she will be told (on the Day of Judgment): enter Paradise from any of its(eight) doors.”

Reflect on:
If a woman harms (in any way) her husband, then his wife in Paradise tells her: “Do not harm him, May Allah fight you, he is only staying temporarily with you. Soon he will come to us.” [Ahmad & At-Tirmithi]

If a man calls his wife to bed and she refuses till he slept while angry, then the Angels will curse her till the morning. [Muslim]

Allah does not look to the woman who does not appreciate her husband while she cannot stand his departing her. [An-Nasaii].

A woman does not fast while her husband is present without his permission, except in Ramadan. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Any woman who asks her husband for divorce for no reason will not smell the fragrance of Paradise. [Sahih Al-Jamii]

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, “If I were to order anyone to bow down to other than Allah, I would order the wife to do so for her husband. By the One who owns the soul of Muhammad,if a wife does not fulfill her obligations towards her husband, then she will not have fulfilled her obligations towards Allah.” [Ahmad]
